A list of the books I've been reading lately

Anthill Anthill by E. O. Wilson, 2010

A good book. There are three very different parts that all blend together to form a cohesive whole. Without (hopefully) giving too much away, there is a very significant event that happens about 20 pages away from the end and is incongruous with the rest of the novel and is a little jarring. But, other than that, the book is well written and an enjoyable read.
50/50 50/50 by Dean Karnazes, 2008

I bought a copy of this book down in D.C. just before meeting Dean at a panel discussion before the North Face Endurance 50 Miler I ran. He wrote a cool inscription inside the cover for me and posed for a snapshot with me next to him. Unfortunately, the book itself wasn't nearly as interesting as how I acquired it. Although the journey to the 50 marathons in 50 states surely offered an amazing amount of things to write about, Karnazes and his co-author chose to neglect almost all those details and instead write an Intro to Running Handbook. It felt very forced and artificial and there were so many not-so-subtle shout outs to sponsors that it became a little nauseating. Several of the marathons weren't described at all, other than having their names listed. Disappointing, to say the least, especially compared to the much more enjoyable Ultramarathon Man.
