I'm not sure why, but I really didn't feel like running today. I had a few drinks with my friends last night, but not so many that I was hungover or anything. And I was feeling a little sore still from last week's bump in mileage, but I don't really think that was the cause either. It was just a general funk, I suppose. It was strange, because usually my run is my favorite part of the day. I'm not the type that has to force myself to go out and get my miles in. Usually, it's the other way around – I'm wanting to run more miles than are allowed by the training schedule. But not today.
Instead of waking up for a run this morning, I slept in. And then, instead of running outside during the afternoon, I decided to go get pizza instead. Finally, I headed to the gym this evening and started to run on the treadmill. But still, I just wasn't feeling it. About two miles into the run, I realized I was going to have to start playing games to occupy myself and fight through the soul-crushing boredom caused by running in place. I decided to raise the speed by .3 mph every half mile and see how far I could keep doing that. I made it through 10.2 (a 5:53/mile pace) before giving up and returning back to the original 9.0. I messed with the incline buttons a bunch too and found out that they can make life miserable in a hurry. I ended up with 5 miles in 33:09 (a better pace than I had planned) but feeling very unfulfilled. I hope tomorrow's run goes better.
